T-Shirts are by far the most popular promotional item. Everyone owns a t-shirt and everyone wears them regularly, making it an important and crucial investment for your brand. It can be overwhelming trying to choose the t-shirt to best represent your organization, company, or school, which is why we put this guide together. Our t-shirt buying guide will help you consider which t-shirt fabrics and t-shirt fits necklines, and lengths will best match your audience, while also providing information on our popular imprint methods and price options
The first step in finding the ideal t-shirt for your audience is choosing the right fabric. Different types of materials are better suited for certain occasions and activities. Below we describe our available t-shirt fabrics – cotton, polyester, and blends.
Cotton is the king of all t-shirt fabrics! It’s soft, breathable, lightweight, and affordable, making it clear why it’s so widely used. Cotton t-shirts are great for buying in bulk due to their low price point, so consider cotton t-shirts for your next fundraising event, team activity, or corporate event when you need to purchase t-shirts for a wide audience. However, keep in mind that most cotton is more likely to shrink than a polyester or blended material.
Below are the five different types of cotton to consider before purchasing, each with their own distinct characteristics:
Polyester is a synthetic material, popular for its durability, resistance to stretching and shrinking, and it’s quick drying ability. Since polyester is a sturdy and strong material, it is recommended to wear polyester t-shirts for outdoor events, sporting activities, and in harsh climates. However, it isn’t as breathable as cotton or blended fabric.
Blended fabric takes advantage of both cotton and polyester, combining the best characteristics of each. Sometimes a third material, Rayon, is used as well. Blended t-shirts are lightweight and breathable, while also being wrinkle resistant and durable. Due the wide range of characteristics, t-shirts made of blended materials are the perfect combination of loungewear and performance wear.
Moisture wicking is the optimal t-shirt material for exercising, hiking, or any type of active event. The moisture wicking material removes moisture from the skin, making it versatile for both cold and hot climate conditions. We carry short sleeve and long sleeve moisture wicking t-shirts, offered in both men’s and women’s sizes. Choose from different fits and a plethora of colors to find the moisture wicking t-shirt that best fits your audience.
Before purchasing wholesale custom t-shirts, consider what fit, neckline, and sleeve length works best for your audience.
We carry four different t-shirt fits – fitted, relaxed fit, semi-fitted, and slim fit.
We carry eight different t-shirt neckline options – crewneck, v-neck, deep v-neck, henley, hooded, off shoulder, ringer, and scoop neck. The most popular, classic t-shirt neckline is the crewneck t-shirt featuring a round neckline that can be worn with layers if desired. Another popular option is our v-neck t-shirt featuring a stylish v neckline shape that is available in a multitude of colors.
We carry three different t-shirt sleeve lengths – ¾ sleeve, long sleeve, and short sleeve.
Screen printing is cost-effective, durable, and great if a large imprinting size is needed. Colors and designs will print clear and crisp since the ink is applied directly through a tiny mesh onto the shirt! Consider screen printing as an imprint method for bulk orders or if you have bright or solid color logos.
Heat transfer works by fusing the artwork into the shirt, resulting in high quality prints. This is somewhat similar to an iron-on transfer. Heat transfer works well for simple logos and designs.
Embroidery is when the image or logo is translated into a design using thread, creating a textured look and feel. This works best with solid color logos, but doesn’t work as well with displaying fine detail and small text. Keep in mind that Embroidery is on the heavy side for t-shirts, so it is recommended to embroider a heavyweight tee.
Dye sublimation can only be used on polyester materials and is done by printing a special ink onto the transfer paper, applying that paper to a substrate and then applying heat and pressure to the material. This results in a soft print and works best on a large imprint area and light colored fabrics.
For laser engraving, a laser printer is used to melt the surface of the fabric, creating a durable and long-lasting imprint that cannot be removed. Note that this is only available for specific materials.
Debossing is a process where a metal die of your design is created and pressed into the shirt. Although colorless, this leaves a 3-dimensional unique look. Note that this is only available for specific materials.
Direct to garment printing uses inkjet technology and digitally transfers the design on the shirt, which creates a soft feel on all t-shirts. It works best on 100% cotton material and is great for full color logos.
Puff printing gives a 3D feel to your design, since the puff additive in the ink will expand once heat is applied. This gives a unique look and feel to your shirts. However, it doesn’t work well for designs with small details.
