It all began in 1996 when Kevin Plank founded Under Armour in his Grandmother’s basement. Plank, who started out as a special teams captain for the University of Maryland, wanted to create a t-shirt that football players did not have to constantly change, like a cotton t-shirt, in the heat of summer during practice. After an incredible amount of research on the athletic benefits of synthetic fabrics, he designed the first Under Armour® HeatGear® T-shirt, which he named the #0037. Engineered with moisture-wicking performance fibers, the shirt helps keep athletes cool, dry, and light in the most brutally hot conditions. This was the start of the high quality brand designed out of necessity by a former college athlete who felt there had to be something better.
Once the popularity of the Under Armour® HeatGear® shirt took off the company introduced Under Armour® CoolGear® in 1998 which gave athletes the ability to battle the elements with a soft brushed inner layer that circulates heat and an element-battling outer layer that keeps [them] dry and protected. These are just two of the innovations they have created for the active person over the years. Plank and Under Armour® have truly made better products and their guarantee shows that the company stands behind these products completely. Here it is as shown on the Under Armour® site:
This is our Universal Guarantee Of Performance
We call it the UGOP. It means that every Under Armour product is doing something for you: it’s making you better.
The logo is our guarantee.
While it is comforting when any brand puts a guarantee on their products, Under Armour® has taken this to the next level. Their logo is their guarantee and it is not limited to just the #0037 or Under Armour® CoolGear®. During the two decades since Grandma’s basement, Under Armour® has grown by leaps and bounds adding more apparel style options, a more diverse selection of athletic accessories, women’s and youth apparel, cleats and eventually athletic footwear.
Now, in 2016, Under Armour® heard the cry of the consumer and has crossed over into the promotional market and we could not be more excited. InkHead is now able to offer you, our consumer, a select number of Under Armour® products ready to be printed with your logo! To insure the integrity of the Under Armour® brand there are a few guidelines they have asked us to follow. We are able to offer blank samples as long as the product includes a grommet. There are restrictions preventing us from selling Under Armour® to certain types of organizations like colleges, universities, collegiate sports teams, golf courses or golf country clubs, retailers, and other promotional product distributors based on the specific type and/or content of the imprint, or product usage. This is because they work with these organizations directly. Lastly, Under Armour® prohibits us from selling their brand to organizations involved in the alcohol, tobacco or pornography industries. Under Armour® is a brand whose goal is to make sure their clientele achieve greatness with their products and these guidelines help to insure this objective.
