A couple weeks ago, we first checked in with Kelly Napier, candidate for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man and Woman of the Year fundraising competition. All through April and May, we will be talking to Kelly as she continues her campaign to raise money for cancer research.
How have the first 2 weeks of fundraising gone?
The first weeks of fundraising have been great! We had an exciting kick-off celebration on 3/28/13! It was a high energy event to begin this amazing journey. It was so overwhelming the emotions I felt standing on stage with the other candidates. I feel so honored and blessed to have been given this opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful cause!
Do you have any noteworthy stories to share?
Last Saturday, I went to lunch at a nearby Chili’s with my girls. I decided to share my campaign story with the manager while we were there. She was excited I shared the story with her, and she has now gone out of her way to partner with me and help me raise funds! It is so nice to see how people are willing to help. All you have to do in share your story!
How is your family helping you with your campaign?
My family has been so wonderful in helping me with my campaign! They were at the kick-off celebration cheering me on which made me feel so loved and supported. They will also be assisting with some of my fundraising efforts over the next few months. Being involved in a campaign like this takes a team of dedicated people around you to help. I am very fortunate to have the support I need!
Do you have any other sponsors you’d like to mention? How have they helped?
There are several sponsors who are assisting by donating silent auction items for the Gala Event on 6/8/13! Some who have committed to the cause are the following: Wild Orchids Hair Salon, Starbucks, Butchers Block, Leeds, Gemline, Van Michael’s Hair Salon and Lancome. I truly appreciate their contributions!
How important is it to have a mentor while campaigning?
Having a mentor is critical while campaigning! To have someone there to cheer you on and give you great advice and tips means so much! I am very lucky to have my uncle Jim Franklyn (VP Of Sales & Marketing at InkHead) as my mentor. He did a wonderful job in 2011 when he ran for “Man Of The Year”. He is a true inspiration and leader! I hope to follow in his footsteps and make this campaign a success!
Together we can all make a difference. If you want to help Kelly in her campaign, attend one of her campaign events or you can make a donation through her donation page. If you can’t afford to make a donation right now, don’t worry. The Man and Woman of the Year campaign runs until Saturday, June 8th. Be sure to come back to the InkHead blog, as we will check back in with Kelly in another couple weeks to see how things are going!
