I woke up this morning and could hardly believe my ears when I heard the radio announcer say the date: February 1. Wow, where did January go? So hard to believe that it’s already the first day of February; 2011 is officially in full swing. In any event, the first day of the month can only mean one thing here on the InkHead blog: your Monthly Event Calendar!
As we’ve discussed in the past, tying a promotional campaign for your business to one of these observances is a good way to connect with customers and prospects that may not have thought about your business in a while. For being a mere 28 days long, February is chock full of important awareness weeks and month-long campaigns, and here are a few of the highlights.
When? February 6-12
What? The following is taken from FEMA’s press release announcing National Burn Awareness Week:
“Each year on average 18,300 Americans are injured, and more than 3,500 die in fires, with children age 14 and under making up 10-15 percent of all fire deaths. National Burn Awareness Week is traditionally observed the first full week in February, and according to FEMA Regional Administrator Ken Murphy, it’s the perfect calendar observance to focus on preventing fires and protecting children.”
How? We have a number of promotional items relating to fire safety and burn awareness, such as our Fireman Stress Balls, but perhaps the craziest one is an item so strange that I’ll mention it again even though we’ve already featured it here once before, the Oil and Vinegar Fire Extinguisher Set.
When? February 20-26
What? The message below is pulled from the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA):
“The goal of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is to promote public and media attention to the seriousness of eating disorders and their biological as well as environmental triggers, and to try to combat the pressures, attitudes and behaviors that can contribute to them.”
How? This year’s theme is “It’s Time to Talk About It,” making items such as Custom Promotional Watches ideal promotional products to use as a tie-in to an event surrounding National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. If you don’t have the budget for watches, then think about getting something as simple as Wholesale T-Shirts or Logo Hats to promote whatever event you have planned to coincide with the week.
When? Varies by state.
What? Several states, including Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana have scheduled their annual Severe Weather Awareness weeks for February this year. Check the Weather Awareness Events Calendar from the National Weather Service to see when the week is observed in your state.
How? There are a number of different ways you could use Severe Weather Awareness Week in your own promotion, but perhaps the most obvious way would be to use Imprinted Umbrellas to spread your message while also providing your target audience with an item that they’ll use again and again, especially in times of inclement weather.
What? The following message is pulled from the American Heart Association:
“Cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation’s No. 1 killer. To urge Americans to join the battle against these diseases, since 1963 Congress has required the president to proclaim February ‘American Heart Month.’ During American Heart Month, thousands of our volunteers visit their neighbors. Their goal is to raise funds for research and education and pass along information about heart disease and stroke.”
How? We have several items that would be suitable for an American Heart Month promotion, including Corporate Stress Balls in the shape of a heart, both metaphorically and anatomically. To find other items, simply run a catalog search for “heart.” You are bound to find some useful items that you like.
Black History Month
What? Black History Month is an opportunity for people to learn more about the important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It has been celebrated in the United States since 1976. The event sparks contention among some people who believe that the history of one race shouldn’t be valued above others, and that Black History is simply American History.
How? We have Bulk Custom Calendars that highlight the accomplishments of African-Americans every month as well as important events in African-American history each day of every month. A number of other items would be suitable for a Black History promotion. Give us a call at 877.554.0127 to discuss more options!
What? Although it’s not clear where the observance originated, there seems to be a growing consensus that February is National Wedding Month, perhaps because this is one of the busiest months for couples planning their nuptials for the upcoming spring or perhaps because many couples get engaged around Valentine’s Day.
How? Regardless of the reason for the observance, InkHead has many items that make ideal wedding favors, such as Custom Plastic Cups or Customized Promotional Corkscrews. Stay tuned to our Knowledge Base library, as I am in the process of fleshing out an entire buying guide for using promotional products at weddings.
What? The following is pulled from the American Dental Association:
“Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. NCDHM messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.”
How? InkHead has several different items that would be appropriate as part of a promotional campaign for NCDHM, including personalized toothbrushes and promotional dental care kits. Looking to make NCDHM a little more entertaining? We have multiple tooth-shaped Logo Stress Balls!
The Bottom Line
February may be known for Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, but there are other events and observances that you can tie into the next promotion you’re planning for your business. Happy February, everyone!
