Ringspun cotton offers two main advantages: strength and softness.
Because the ring-spinning process twists the cotton fibers together to hold the fiber bundle together, ringspun cotton is more durable than open-end cotton, which has a wrapped fiber that holds the fiber bundle together.
What’s more, ringspun cotton is softer than open-end cotton, which tends to feel rougher to the touch because the wrapped fiber runs perpindicular to the fiber bundle. In ringspun cotton, on the other hand, all of the fibers are aligned in the same direction. The short fibers that stick out of the fiber bundle on ringspun cotton also contribute to its softer feel.
