Find the Best Year-End Deals on Stuff You LovePosted December 6, 2013 | | The Executive Corner
Everyone knows that the end of the year is the best time to buy a car. But what you might not know is that the end of the year is the best time to make many other big ticket purchases as well. Here are the products and services that you need to keep your eye on along with some strategies for getting the absolute best deal.
Vacations at off-season prices are always hot items
If you’re like most people, you could stand to get away for some serious ‘R and R’. So if you can get the time off, you can take advantage of package deals to paradise at off-season rates (think October and November).
STRATEGY: Check with travel bureaus first--even if you hate using them, because they typically have the info on vacation discounts that you might not find on your own.
Older model appliances work great and cost less
The ‘upgrade factor’ almost always works in your favor. The big manufacturers (think Maytag, LG, and Whirlpool) typically drop their prices on older models so that they can make room for the new equipment coming down the line.
STRATEGY: Check out the ‘scratch-and-dent’ models at chain retailers (they typically keep them in one section of the store)–inquire about any warranties that still exist on these items.
Technology and electronics stores slash prices dramatically
Another item that lives by the ‘latest-and-greatest’ code of commercialism. If you’re not caught up in having the most recent model, you can find incredible deals on HDTVs, mobile technologies, and video gaming systems.
STRATEGY: Black Fridays and Cyber Mondays are the ‘in’ thing–but you’ve also got to be on the ball to get those deals before they run out of product.
Clothing and apparel sales allow you to stock up
Late November is the ideal time to grab the best deals on cold weather gear. So if you can make-do with what you have until that time comes, you can typically make out like a bandit and get ready for the next cold weather season at the same time.
STRATEGY: If you’re a camper, you can save on clothing and accessories–because stores typically figure that the camping season is over (which works in your favor).
There’s nothing like finding a great deal on a product that you’ve had your eye on for a while. As the end of the year approaches, the time is now to treat yourself while putting some money back into your pocket.
