Announcing…the InkHead Mobile!Posted April 20, 2011 | About InkHead.com, Tips and Trends from the Experts
The other day, InkHead’s VP of Sales and Marketing (and LLS Man of the Year nominee) Jim Franklyn sent the office an email simply titled “InkHead Mobile,” and I thought he was referring to InkHead’s relatively new mobile site—until I opened the email.
Given that the message was sent to the entire office at the same time, a wave of murmuring washed over the sea of cubicles here at InkHead HQ as we all first saw the InkHead Mobile at roughly the same time. Remember that this Mitsubishi Eclipse was a car we had seen Jim drive to work every day for the last several weeks, so seeing it freshly wrapped and fully decked in InkHead regalia was a bit of a shock at first.

No one can argue that vehicle signage is eye-catching. But how many people are likely to see Jim’s car? How does automotive advertising stack up against other formats, such as radio, television, and billboards?
How Effective is Vehicle Advertising?
According to a study done by the Transportation Advertising Council, a division of the OAAA (Outdoor Advertising Association of America), vehicle advertising can generate anywhere between 30,000-70,000 impressions daily. Extrapolated over a year, one vehicle could garner over 8 million impressions for a business. Moreover, the OAAA has determined that fleet advertising can boost name recognition 15 times more than any other form of advertising.
What’s more, automotive advertising reaches sections of the population that are not reached by other media, such as print media or television. Furthermore, vehicle signage is not limited by socioeconomic factors that may affect other forms of advertising; 96% of Americans ride or drive in vehicle each week, according to an Arbitron study. Everyone uses roads.
Finally, fleet advertising is much cheaper when compared to other advertising formats. A single wrap can last several years, driving the monthly cost well under $100 a month. Few other advertising formats have such a low cost-per-impression ratio.
Promotional Products for Automobile Advertising
Speaking of a low cost-per-impression ratio, promotional products boast similar numbers. And while InkHead doesn’t offer full-body decals like the ones we used to make the InkHead Mobile, we do offer several options for automobile advertising, such as promotional bumper stickers, custom car decals, and even customized car magnets.
My child is an honor student at Lincoln Elementary. My other car is a Millennium Falcon. Vote Dole/Kemp ’96. We’ve all seen bumper stickers, but have you ever considered using them as a promotional tool? While not as bold as full-body vehicle graphics, promotional bumper stickers provide businesses a chance to put their brand or message in front of thousands of people every month.
Need some bumper stickers in a hurry? Think about ordering some of our 3″ x 11-1/2″ Value-line Rush Bumper Sticker. Available with up to two imprint colors, these stickers are screen-printed and durable enough for use inside and out. With FREE 1-day rush production, you can have an order of custom bumper stickers in your hands in no time.
If you’re concerned that your customers will not want to adhere your message to their car permanently, we also have a wide selection of custom static-cling car decals available, such as the Clear Removable Car Sticker – 4″ x 4″ (Static on Face). The 4″x4″ clear static cling vinyl “sticker” will adhere to smooth metal or glass without the use of adhesive. Even better, the sticker is outdoor-durable for 3 to 5 years, so your message will stick around for a while!
We also offer decals that have permanent adhesive, so be sure to review our complete selection of custom car decals to find the one that works best for you.
While the previous two promotional items we’ve discussed would work best as giveaways to potential customers for nearly any business or organization, custom car magnets would be useful for small service-based businesses, such as those offering plumbing, tree removal, or handyman repair services.
The Full-Color 24″ x 12″ Car Magnet is one of our most popular car magnets and with good reason. Decorated using full-color UV ink printing up to 600dpi for photo-realistic images and boasting a superior 30-mil flexible material that holds on vehicles even at high speeds, these magnets are easy to remove and conform well to most metal surfaces. They also have rounded corners to prevent wind lift off and offer 2 years of outdoor durability.
The Bottom Line
Regardless of what you think about it, automobile advertising is effective in that for relatively little money, it can reach several thousand people, who may be untapped by other advertising campaigns. While InkHead does not offer full-body vehicle graphic services like those we employed to make the InkHead Mobile, we do carry several products that can literally turn your car into a promotional vehicle, such as Customized Bumper Stickers, Custom Car Decals, and Promotional Car Magnets. Now that’s something worth braking for!
