In case you haven’t heard, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has extended this year’s deadline to file your federal income taxes to Monday, April 18th, because of the Washington D.C.-area holiday, Emancipation Day. That means that all you procrastinators out there still have three more days to complete your tax returns.
As always, the IRS recommends that you file online for quicker processing of your return. Furthermore, be advised that because of the increase in online filing and the extension over the weekend, the United States Post Office will not be extending their hours on 4/18, as they have in years past. That means that you will need to be prepared to submit your taxes at the close of business on 4/18.
Also, note that this deadline extension should apply to your state income taxes as well, but you may want to check with your state’s tax office just to be sure.
