Red Dawgs Suffer Loss to MelchesterPosted November 23, 2010 | | About InkHead.com
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end sometime.
This past Sunday, the InkHead Red Dawgs snapped their three-game winning streak after suffering a heart-breaking 1-2 defeat to Melchester Wings.
Despite an early goal from defender Matt Bennett and maintaining possession for much of the first half, the Red Dawgs could not hold on to win. In fact, “so strong was the Red Dawg defense in the first half that Melchester only managed their first shot on goal after 43 minutes,” according to Atlanta-Footballnet, who was there to witness the action first-hand.
The second half, however, was another story. After losing league-leading scorer Tyler Davis to injury at the end of the first half, the Red Dawgs faced increased pressure from the Wings during the second half. The tighter Wings defense disrupted the Red Dawgs’ chemistry and opened them up for mistakes which the Wings were able to capitalize on, scoring two unanswered goals during the second half.
With the loss, the Red Dawgs move to 5-2 on the season and fall to a tie for second place in the league table. The boys get a break this weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday before taking on the 3-3-1 Sting Gold on 12/5. Here’s hoping Tyler Davis has a speedy recovery and that all the players have a safe and happy holiday.
